

Faculty Resources for Professional Development
Given the professional development resources of our department, the Institute, Harvard Medical School, affiliated institutions (like Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital), and professional societies, Supportive Oncology faculty have access to almost limitless opportunities for professional development. This abundance can be both exciting and overwhelming. Here, we aim to collect and organize many of those resources, making them more approachable and accessible.
Department of Supportive Oncology Office for Professional development (SO OPD)
The SO OPD is committed to helping SO faculty thrive in their research, educational, and clinical careers. The OPD provides some direct resources and support to faculty, including the following:

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Office for Faculty Development (DFCI OFD)
The DFCI OFD ( https://dfcionline.org/research/facultydevelopment/) supports and facilitates the career growth and development of Harvard appointed Dana-Farber faculty. The OFD focuses on advancing opportunity, community, and equity for DFCI faculty.
Specifically, the goals of the OFD are to:
· Support the career development of all faculty at Dana-Farber;
· Enhance the diversity of faculty and faculty leadership;
· Help ensure a positive faculty work environment through such strategies as mentoring programs and work/life initiatives.
The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Center for Faculty Wellbeing (DFCI CFW)
The DFCI CFW provides an array of resources for DFCI faculty. Of note is the Editorial Support Program:
The DFCI Center for Faculty Well-Being’s Editorial Support Program is pleased to offer support to eligible faculty for completing manuscripts, grants, and poster development for the upcoming fall conferences. Editing support includes:
· Poster development from an abstract
· Manuscripts, including journal formatting and submission
· Grants, including biosketches and plain language summaries
· Creating and formatting references, tables, and figures

Harvard Medical School Office for Faculty Affairs (HMS OFA):
The mission of the HMS OFA is to “support the recruitment, retention, academic advancement, and career satisfaction of our diverse faculty through education, service, communication, and timely recognition of scholarly achievement.” Many resources can be found on the webpage: https://fa.hms.harvard.edu. Of particular note are the resources under the Faculty Development tab, including the Faculty of Medicine Handbook, the faculty orientation series, CV guidelines, and faculty promotion webinars.
Affiliated Institutions
Our affiliated institutions like Boston Children’s Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital also have resources for faculty, including support for medical educators, affinity groups, peer support groups, etc. Information about these resources can be found on the websites of the respective institutions.
External organizations
Professional organizations like the American Psychosocial Oncology Society (APOS), the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM), the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC), and others often provide valuable professional development resources for their members, including small grants, leadership training, and networking opportunities.
